Directions: From Kahului Airport, take Highway 380 South, following the signs for Lahaina. After traveling about 7 miles, the road ends with a traffic signal at Highway 30; turn left following the signs for Lahaina. Proceed down Highway 30 about a mile past going straight through the intersection with a traffic signal for Kihei.  Stay in the left-hand lane, watching for a green road sign indicating the Maalaea exit. Make a soft left from the highway by taking the first Maalaea exit (yield to oncoming traffic while waiting in the left turn lane). Proceed down Maalaea Road and make the FIRST LEFT at Hauoli Street. Follow the signs for the Waterfront Restaurant. The Milowai condo building is the third building down the road at 50 Hauoli Street. Park in the reserved spot as indicated in the email that we send you after you have paid in full. Note: If you miss the first Maalaea exit, there are two more exits. Make a left at the next intersection (with stoplights), then right on Maalaea Road and  a left on to Hauoli Street.
Check-in, Check-out Times: Check-in time is 2 PM or any time after 2 PM.  Check-out time is 10 AM or any time before 10 AM.  If you are planning on chekcing out late, you must contact us before you arrrive in Maui.  We charge less than a night's fee for staying late which means we WILL NOT BOOK the night that you are leaving late.  If your plans change AFTER you arrive in Maui, please call Bello Realty, Inc. during regular business hours and see if you can arrange to leave late; this may not be possible due to guests arriving, cleaning schedules, etc.  Mahalo.
Getting the Keys: When we receive your payment in full, we will send you an email with important directions including the lockbox code.  Follow the directions in the email for using the lockbox.  You will find keys in the condo per the email instructions we send.  Always put the lockbox key back in the lockbox.  Call Bello Realty, Inc. during normal business hours if you cannot find the keys, etc.  The number for Bello Realty Inc. from the mainland is 800-541-3060, and dial 0 to speak with someone when prompted.  From Maui, dial 808-879-3328, and dial 0 to speak with someone when prompted.   Normal Business hours for Bello Realty, Inc. are Mon-Fri 9 AM to 5 PM.
Parking: 107 Milowai has its own reserved parking spot.  Please follow the directions that you are sent by email to determine which spot is yours - it is not labeled with the condo number for security purposes.  If anyone should be parking in the designated parking spot, park in the VISITOR parking and call the building manager, Kent.  You can find his number posted in the elevator and on the bulletin board by the mailboxes.
Condo Supplies - What to Expect to Find in the Condo: We do not provide maid service during your stay or food supplies (although you can pay to have the condo cleaned if you'd like to have it cleaned again while you are there).  Call Bello Realty, Inc. if you would like to pay for another cleaning of the condo.  What you can expect to find when you arrive is:  enough toilet paper to last a couple of days, starter supplies for dishwahing liquid, automatic dishwashing detergent, clothes washer soap, a clean sponge and 3 trash bags (2 in the can).. Everything else depends on what other folks leave behind. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes, utensils, etc, however there should be NO FOOD in the kitchen.  We strongly recommend you stop at Costco or Safeway on the way in from the airport and purchase some food and supplies.  The bathroom is stocked with towels and face cloths.  There are some beach towels.  We do not keep any kind of water sports equipment. Please do not leave behind any water sports equipment that you purchase; please either toss it or it give away.   If you're staying for more than a week, make a note of what you'll need once you get to the condo, and then get the rest of your basic supplies.  Stocking up on toilet paper, kitchen garbage bags, beverages, snacks, breakfast and lunch items can save money and hassles over many days.  There is a Safeway on the right side of Piilani Highway on the way to Kihei.  Costco, Kmart and Walmart are on your left side as you exit the airport and drive down Dairy Road on the way to our condo.  There are also several small stores in Maalaea Village for simple items:  Trade Winds, at the beginning of Hauoli Drive and the Whaler General Store in the Aquarium Center Mall, a 5 minute walk from the condo building towards the harbor.
Security: Since all shoreline in Hawaii must be accessible to the public, take no chances and lock and deadbolt the front door when leaving or retiring for the evening. Don't leave valuables on the lanai.  Also, double lock the lanai sliding glass door; there's a lock on the handle and a bolt lock at the base of the door. This bolt lock at the base of the sliding glass door is the most important lock to bolt since the louvered windows could allow easy access to the handle of the sliding door. Close louvered windows over A/C when you are not in the condo. When sleeping on fold-out couch in the living room, do not leave lanai door unlocked.  Instead, lock the sliding glass door with this floor bolt lock and open the louvered windows on both sides of the sliding glass doors.  The front door has a special security screen so that you can leave the front door open and lock the screen from the inside to prevent theft.  We do not recommend leaving the front door open while sleeping.  In fact, please keep the front door closed as much as possible -- it is a major source of DIRT.  Mahalo.
Staying Cool:   See below for specific directions on how to use the A/C. Three strong ceiling fans coupled with Trade Winds keep the condo comfortable.  Do not leave the front door open for very long - especially when the trade winds are strong - winds carry dirt and ash from the fields that can make the condo dirty quickly.  Opening the front door for a few minutes will cool the condo off quickly; then, close the door. Better still, run the A/C for a while to cool the condo down, and then TURN OFF the A/C and open the windows.   Please keep the bottom kitchen window shutters closed - mahalo.  You may want to close the bedroom drapes during early morning sun to keep the condo cool especially in the winter months.  Please turn off ceiling fans, lights and A/C when leaving the condo for several hours - Mahalo.  Our condo gets a lot of cross-ventilation from the bedroom to the lanai, so it's comfortable. The A/C is nice to cool the condo down initially when you come home.  Let the ocean do the rest of the work.  Make sure close all windows and doors and  leave ceiling fans on LOW before running A/C. The ocean is very close to the condo and the temperature in Maalaea is cooler  than the rest of the island.  A/C is important when the winds die down, or during cane burning,  trying to watch TV without ocean.
Air Conditioner:  Close all windows and doors; turn all ceiling fans on LOW; Press POWER button; select "Energy Saver" (runs less, but keeps it cool); set TEMP to 76 degrees or higher (PLEASE!); set timer to  1/2 hour increments.  Please set timer to 2 hours or less.  Mahalo for remembering that electricity costs 3 times as much as on the mainland.
Cane burning- What to do if the cane smoke comes near the condo: Maui still allows cane burning on our side of the island.  Most cane burning happens at 8 AM and has blown out to sea by 10AM.  Most of the time the smoke does not pass directly over the condo, and is not a bother.  You will be notified by phone the day before if there will be cane burning near the condo. When cane burning happens near the condo and you smell smoke, close the windows until the smoke passes.  Maui homeowners have been petitioning the local government to ban cane burning completely; change happens slowly in Hawaii.
Garbage: Use the garbage bags provided to line the expensive garbage pail in the kitchen.  The garbage bag will still out the outside - doesn't look particularly attractive, but does the job.  Purchase tall  kitchen bags if you need to get replacements. Due to constant heat and humidity, keep the garbage pail closed; the can seals garbage smells.  There is a garbage chute at the end of the hall. Go right when leaving the condo; it's the last door on the right side. Please dispose of all garbage on the last day of your stay. Please avoid using the garbage disposal in the sink for anything (please no banana peels, artichokes, meat bones, etc.).  Milowai septic system has a hard time handling garbage disposal stuff.  Use the garbage can mostly.   Run lots of water before and after using the garbage disposal.
Bugs/Pests: DO NOT FEED BIRDS ON BALCONY.  Birds carry dangerous mites that bite terribly and can make you sick, and the birds will leave a lot droppings.  Mahalo.  The condo association takes care of all bugs and pests.  However, it is important that if you see a lot of bugs or droppings of any kind in the condo, call Bello Realty, Inc. during regular business hours (9 AM to 5 PM) 879-3328..  Also, if the ants are bad by the bedroom windows, go to the bottom-right supply drawer opposite the refrigerator and replace the ant traps on the window ledges.  There is also bug spray under the sink and sometimes above the washer and dryer..  Remember, this is the tropics, and bugs are a fact of life. . Geckos are terrific little lizards that are harmless, make no noise and eat lots of bugs.  Geckos are your friend.  You can easily put one outside if it bothers you just by cupping it in your hand and putting it on the lanai. Mahalo for your help.
Fold-out Couch: The couch can be closed with mattress pad, fitted sheet and flat sheet.  Please put blankets or any extra bed linens in the closet before folding the bed closed - mahalo.
Broken Appliances, Unclean Condo, etc:  Any problems, call Bello Realty, Inc. during regular business hours (9 AM to 5:00 PM Mon- Fri) at 879-3328.
Emergencies:  For serious water leaks, and fire etc. call Bello Realty at 879-3328 and follow the menu for after-hour emergencies.  Also notify Kent, the building manager.
Replacing Halogen Lights: If some halogen lights are out and it is bothering you, call Bello Realty, Inc. during regular business hours. - mahalo.  Don't try to replace these lights unless you've worked with them before.
Dishwasher: Use LIGHT cycle with HI TEMP WASH.  NO Heated Dry (just makes condo hotter!).  Push START to begin cleaning.  Add rinse aid when it get's low --- water in Maui has lots of calcium and scratches glasses..
Washer/Dryer: The washing machine is a front-loading machine that uses very little water. You CANNOT select a water level. Load the clothes and close the door.  Use only High Efficiency Laudry Detergent, such as H.E. Tide.  Regular soap creates too much suds and jams the machine!  Open the SOAP TRAY and load soap.  Turn knob to select NORMAL wash.  Then press START. DO NOT OPEN the washing machine door during its cycle when lock light is on.  Dryer door opens from the opposite side as the washing machine! Make sure to clean the lint trap in the front of the dryer before drying clothes. Call Bello Realty, Inc. during regular business hours if you have a problem.  Please be gentle and do not lean on the doors.  Close the bedroom and livingroom doors if you don't want to hear the machines while they are running.  Mahalo
Pool and Barbecue: The pool and barbecue are located directly through the door to your right as you leave the condo. Bring your keys to get into the pool. The hall door is not locked. Pool use is limited to certain hours so check the sign at the pool gate. There is a barbecue near the sea wall. There are propane burners on either side. There are very clear directions posted at the barbecue on how to use it; please read and follow carefully,  Mahalo.
Phone/DSL: Local calls to anywhere on Maui are FREE. Use your long distance calling card or cell phone for calls to Honolulu, the other Hawaiian islands, states and foreign countries. Do not make long distance, operated assisted calls. Thank you for your cooperation. The phone has a message machine, so folks can leave messages for you. It's easy to operate just follow the buttons. Try to delete all messages when you leave.  The DSL modem is attached to the wall next to the diningroom table.  Please do not move or remove this modem; a cable is provided.  Of course, you can use the phone while you are on the DSL connection.  Please turn off the DSL Modem when not using your computer.  There is an OFF switch on the power strip attached to the wall.  All lights on modem should be off.  Use the power strip switch to turn DSL back on before using your laptop PC.   Mahalo
Beach and Snorkeling: You can snorkel off the sea wall if you swim over the rocks out to deeper waters. There is much sea life and coral past the break, 50 yards out. It's best to go snorkeling with someone since you are away from shore. Use lots of sun screen; Maui sun after 10AM is brutal. To get to the beach, leave the condo building by Hauoli Road and walk 5 minutes to the end of the road away from the Harbor. A five mile stretch of beach begins at the end of the street. Early morning walks are wonderful on this stretch of beach. You can rent snorkeling equipment very cheaply in Maui.  Please do not leave your snorkeling equipment in the condo when you leave.
Cable TV - watching and recording: To watch TV, turn on the TV and the Cable Receiver by using the CABLE remote - there is a master POWER button in the upper right-hand corner of the remote.  You can tell that the TV is ON when the VIZIO logo on the front of the TV changes color from AMBER to WHITE. You can tell that the Cable Receiver is ON when a small "power ON symbol" appears on the Cable Receiver display.  This "power on symbol" is the International symbol for a power switch -- a small circle with a vertical line at the top.  You CANNOT watch TV unless: (1) The VIZIO logo on the TV is WHITE and (2) the Cable Receiver has that little circle with the line showing on the display.  You can use the "Liv. TV" remote to turn ON the TV if for some reason it is not ON after using the Cable remote master power button.  If the Cable Remote is not cooperating, make sure to press the "CBL" button beneath the master power button so that the Cable Remote is in "cable mode" when you are using it.  There is no need to put the Cable Remote in any other mode; please leave it in CBL MODE.  For volume control, please use the TV remote or DVD remote.  The cable remote does not control the TV volume for the VIZIO TV.  Use the Cable remote to record shows.  Use List button to see a list of what you've recorded and play back the shows.  Please erase everything that you record.  Please turn OFF TV and Cable Receiver when done --- VIZIO logo should be AMBER and cable receiver should not show the power symbol. Mahalo
DVD - watching: Use the Input button "HDMI" on the "Liv. TV" remote to switch from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2 to watch DVDs.  There is also an INPUT button on the side of the TV screen, where you can change from HDMI 1 to HDMI 2.  Remember you have to be in HDMI 2 to watch a DVD.  You have to be in HDMI 1 to watch cable TV.
CD - Listening:  Turn ON the Stereo receiver labeled "1 Stereo CD" - located on the bottom shelf of the TV stand.  Then turn ON the CD player labeled "2 Stereo CD" located on the lamp end table next to the TV.  Load CD and hit "play"  Make sure to turn OFF the CD player by pressing the power button AND the Stereo Receiver.  NO LIGHTS should be ON when all is OFF..  If you want to hear the radio, turn on the Stereo Receiver and CD player as explained above and then push the FUNCTION button on the CD player to change from CD to radio - please put the CD player back in CD mode when done.  Mahalo.
Restaurants
The Waterfront Restaurant --  On the other side of the building; top-rated on the island.  Check out their early bird specials on the week days.
Da Kitchen -- Great place, lots of food Hawaiian style.  Look them up in the book - they're in a shopping center right off Diary Road and the Road to Hana -- behind the donut place on Diary Road right as you are living the airport.
Pizza in Paradise is a good pizza place that is local owned and operated in Kahului. Drive back to the airport and make a left on to PUUNENE (the large intersection with the traffic lights and the church with the blue roof at the corner). Then make a right at WAKEA AVE, first stop light. Pizza in Pradise is on the right side about 100 yards down the road. You can call for delivery at 871-8188. If you want to pick up, call ahead of time to order; pizza is usually ready in 35 minutes.
Maui Ocean Center Restaurant  Exellent service, great prices and wonderful views --- check it out!
Rosa's Cantina is very good and it just opened in May of 2008.  Clean and pretty on the inside -- the Chile Rellenos were terrific.  Better than a lot of Mexican food we've had in SF.  It's at 197 N. Market St. in Wailuku; take out as well 244-8304.
Buzz's Wharf is a good restaurant. It's on the other side of the harbor from the Blue Marlin. There are also 2 other restaurants in the Maui Ocean Center Mall.
The Whaler General Store may be part of a chain, but it has good merchandise and a paper if you need one. You can get to the Whaler General Store by following the directions to the Blue Marlin, just continue past this restaurant and go up the stairs into the mall. The store will be to your left. You can get video rentals from the Trade Winds store right before you get to the Blue Marlin.
Brian's Golf Tips
There are many golf courses within thirty minutes of the condo. The closest one is Maui Dunes; you pass right by it coming from the airport.  I think it is about eighty dollars, half that at twilight.  The municipal course at Waiehu is pretty inexpensive, about twenty dollars, and it's got a couple of holes along the ocean.  It is in better shape now but they've raised the price a bit.   My favorite is Makena, site of past Hawaii state opens, and it is a real test of golf.  Expensive, as all resort courses are on Maui, but if you go twilight you'll save some money. If you're a twelve handicap or better, I would recommend the skins game at Kapalua, which is played every day at one of their three courses. They also have a skins game once a week at Maui Dunes on Tuesdays and once a week at Makena. The advantage is that you get the local or Kamaina rates when you play in the skins, and it only costs thirty-five to get in the game.
Visiting Maui
There's a lot to see and do if you choose. We'd be happy to discuss some great points of interest and activities if you'd like more information. Please give us a call. You will pass by a Costco on the way from the airport; it's a good spot to load up the fridge with fruits and vegetables since these items are very expensive on Maui. There is also a SWAP meet on Saturday and Wednesday mornings next to the Post Office in Kahului. Good local fun and lots of home grown fruits and vegetables. Have a great stay!
